Frequently Asked Questions
SmartScripts is an entirely new way of managing daily medications. As a result, we tend to get asked many of the same questions from patients about how our Regimen Management process works. Some of those frequently asked questions are below. If you can’t find the answer here, please call 1-844-59-SMART (1-844-597-6278) and a SmartScripts representative will be happy to assist you.
Most Frequently Asked
Is there an additional cost for this service?
There is no additional charge for SmartScripts beyond your typical co-pays and the cost of any over-the-counter medications, vitamins, or supplements that you choose to add to your medication strip (SmartStrip). Shipping, handling, or any other extra fees do not exist with SmartScripts.
Do my copays remain the same?
Your copays will most likely stay the same as any 30-day fill from a typical retail pharmacy.
Is SmartScripts covered by insurance?
SmartScripts accepts most major insurance plans, including most Medicare Part D plans and Medicaid. Please contact us with any questions or to verify your insurance compatibility with SmartScripts.
How do I pay for this service?
It is easiest to pay by credit card, electronic fund transfer, or check. We will bill your chosen payment method after the medication is filled for co-pays and the cost of any over-the-counter, non-prescription medications you have requested. Please call us to discuss other options.
What if I need something other than pills?
SmartScripts operates just like your neighborhood pharmacy and can provide you with ointments, creams, liquids, inhalers, nebulizers, diabetes testing equipment, and anything else you may require. These items will be packaged alongside your medication strip.
Can non-prescription items be added to my SmartPack?
Of course. Your daily vitamins, minerals, and supplements can be packaged with your prescriptions.
How often will I receive my medication?
You will receive a new strip of medications every 30 days, approximately 2-5 days prior to the new strip’s start date.
You will receive your first SmartScripts medication strip, along with any items that do not fit in your strip like inhalers and creams, approximately 2-5 days prior to your start date as discussed and agreed upon during your sign up. You will then receive refills of your medications every 30 days.
What if my medications change?
We know that medications can change at any time. We will send you a Physician’s Guide to SmartScripts which will advise your physician what to do in the event a new prescription or change in dose is required. If the change is needed immediately, we can provide you with enough of the medication to get you through to your next SmartScripts refill. If the change is non-emergent, we can wait and start your new dose or medication in your next strip to avoid confusion.
What do you do about medications I take sometimes but not every day?
Any medication that you take on an as-needed basis will be dispensed in a standard prescription bottle rather than your SmartStrip. However, if you find yourself taking an as-needed medication on a regular basis, our pharmacists will be happy to help you decide if a new prescription from your physician with scheduled directions is right for you.
Do I need to get all new prescriptions?
Absolutely not. After initial consultation, we will contact your previous pharmacy and transfer all of your prescriptions. If and when refills are needed, we will contact your provider. At SmartScripts, we take care of everything.
What if I need a medication immediately?
If you need an immediate medication such as an antibiotic, we can ship overnight, but we recommend filling that prescription at your local retail pharmacy so you can begin taking your medication right away. If it is a medication you continue to plan on taking, we would be more than happy to add it to your next strip. If you have any questions or are uncertain about the urgency of starting a new medication, please call us at 1-844-597-6278 and we will help explore your options.

Enrollment and Getting Started
What happens if/when I get a new prescription?
Your physician can send your new prescription directly to SmartScripts. Our fax number is 855-971-4052. If your new medication is to be started immediately, we will provide a standard pill bottle with enough of the medication to get you through to your next 30-day cycle. At that point, the new med will be packaged with all of your other medications and supplements in one convenient strip. If the new prescription is not to be started right away, we can wait until your next SmartPack is packaged to avoid confusion.
What happens in the event of a dose change?
We’re aware that medications can change at any time. In the event of a dose change for one of your regular medications, we can send an interim supply to get you through to your next refill. We will package the new dose in your next SmartPack and remove the old one. However, if one of your medications requires frequent dose changes, we may package that medication separately in a standard pill bottle with specific instructions. This allows you to change your dosing of that particular medication without having to worry about changing the rest of your SmartPack.
Can you add vitamins and supplements to my SmartPack?
Absolutely. Any vitamins, minerals, or supplements you would like can be packaged with your prescriptions.
When are SmartScripts pharmacists available for consultation?
Pharmacists are available during SmartScripts normal business hours, 8:00 am – 6:00 pm CST Monday through Friday and 8:00 am – 4:00 pm CST on Saturdays. In the case of an emergency, a Pharmacist is available outside of those hours, 24/7, via phone.
How do you collect my personal and prescription information?
Most of the information we gather comes directly from you during your initial consultation and signup. After the signup process, we contact your previous pharmacy to gather prescription information including the names, strengths, and quantities of your medications, dosing instructions, refills, provider(s), and other pertinent information to ensure you get started on the SmartScripts system at a time that’s convenient for you. Further information related to your prescriptions may be gathered from your provider(s).
Are SmartScripts products child safe?
SmartScripts medication strips are not child safe. Please be sure to keep your medications out of the reach of children at all times.
Regimen Management
What is it and how does it work?
Regimen Management is a new solution to a decades-old problem: taking the right pills at the right time. We package your daily prescriptions, vitamins, and supplements into individual pouches that are then combined on a roll(s) called a SmartPack. Each pouch is marked with a date and time so all you need to do is tear off the pouch, rip it open, and take your medications.
What if I have prescriptions from multiple doctors?
We will contact each of your providers and get all pertinent information regarding your prescriptions and refills. We will make every effort necessary to sync all of your medications regardless of prescriber.
How do you get in contact with my doctor(s)?
We use a combination of faxes, phone calls, and e-scribing to get in contact with your providers(s).
What do I have to do to make sure I get refills on time?
Most of the time, you don’t have to do a thing. We collaborate with your providers(s) and insurance to be sure you have sufficient refills well before your SmartPack is packaged. If there is ever any additional action required of you by your provider or insurance, such as a visit to the provider’s office, we will be sure to communicate that action with you in a clear and timely manner.
Are you able to send insulin and other diabetes testing equipment, such as test strips and needles?
Absolutely. We work with you to get your insulin, needles, and other diabetes testing equipment to you in a safe and controlled manner as quickly and efficiently as possible. Please note that while we can bill many insurance providers for test strips, unfortunately we cannot do this for Medicare Part B patients.
What should I do if I forget to take one of my SmartStrips pouches?
Call your pharmacy team at SmartScripts. We will review your regimen and guide you on the best course of action.
Quality Assurance
How is my SmartPack prepared?
Your prescription information is entered by one of our pharmacy technicians and double checked by a pharmacist. This is for accuracy and interactions prior to packaging. We then utilize a highly sophisticated, automated dispensing system to sort and fill each pouch in your SmartPack. Your medication is tracked through each step of the process and is monitored by a pharmacist to ensure you get the correct medications each and every time.
How do you check my medication before it's sent out?
Each pouch is sent through an image recognition system that confirms each medication is in the right pouch. All medications are checked against a drug database and verified based on color, density, shape, and size. An image of each pouch is recorded in the system and a pharmacist checks each strip for accuracy before it is packaged for pickup or delivery.
What do I do if a pouch has an error?
You should never receive a SmartPack with an error. However, in the unlikely event that you receive a pack with an error, contact us immediately. We will promptly send you a corrected replacement via overnight shipment at no cost.
If I want to speak to a pharmacist, what’s the best way to get a hold of one?
